Check out the latest issue of Antiquity with a focus on archaeological science incl. radiocarbon dating of what might be the world’s oldest known runestone! Read the editorial.
The issue includes the article “Inscribed sandstone fragments of Hole, Norway: radiocarbon dates provide insight into rune-stone traditions” by Steinar Solheim and colleagues, which describes sandstones dated by the Tandem Lab to 50 BC–AD 275. This makes it the earliest known runestone!
