Molecular analysis

What is it about?

Molecular analysis of ancient DNA of organisms supplys information on sex, ancestry, kinship, traits, pathogenic microorganisms, taxonomy for individuals and specimens. The analysis of environmental samples (sedaDNA) provides insight into ecological/taxonomic composition.

What does ArchLab offer?

The services are integrated with the ArchLab functions for Microscopy and material analysis for the identification of biomarkers (e.g. lipids), such as those derived from foods or materials found in residues on ceramics or tools (e.g. fatty acids and sterols). This cooperation also opens up for the use of sedaDNA in environmental reconstructions and landscape oriented studies (as aDNA complements macro and microfossils).

Our equipment includes fully furnished air-lock accessed clean room laboratories, and post-PCR laboratories, for ancient DNA analysis at UU and SU. Laboratory dedicated for ancient plant DNA analysis at UU. High performance computing capacity for ancient DNA data analysis. See M2 for chemical analyses equipment.
