The principals of dendrochronological dating.

Function: Absolute tree-ring-based age determination and provenance determination of natural wood samples, construction timber and archaeological artefacts based on an extensive set of region-specific reference series (dendrochronologies) which is unique for northern Europe. Continuous development of reference series and enhanced dating precision of older samples in collaboration with the Lund Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory. Species determination of charcoal and microscopic wood samples from archaeological excavations. User support for project design, sampling and interpretation of results, and assessment of sample and result quality.

Equipment:

  • Laboratory for sample preparation
  • Microtome for thin sections,
  • Equipment for tree-ring width measurements (Lintab and Aniol measuring tables equipped with stereo microscopes and cameras) with CATRAS
  • TSAPWin and CooRecorder software, scanner for image and blue intensity analysis.
