Lund Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory
Function: Relative and absolute dating including 14C (collaboration with Tandem lab), luminescence (LLL) and dendrochronology (LWD). Continued development of calibration and chronologies. Bayesian statistics to combine results and enhance dating precision. Development of luminescence dating in archaeology, pre-treatments for sensitive samples, bone preparation, materials preserved with different chemicals, assessment of sample quality before preparation.
Equipment: Sample preparation labs. 14C: modern automated equipment for sample graphitisation (measured through M6). LWD: microtome for thin sections, Lintab and Aniol measuring tables with stereo microscopes and cameras; CATRAS, TSAPWin and CooRecorder software; scanner for image and blue intensity analysis; wood anatomy reference collection. LLL: Three Risø TL/OSL-readers (DA-20), SUERC portable reader, μDose system for dose rate measurement.
